Who buys the groom’s sherwani?

I would like to know who buys the groom’s sherwani? Is it from the bride’s side?

Jaspreetji,

Thank you for your question. The groom’s sherwani (formal, long coat like garment, usually embroidered) is provided by the groom’s side. Often it is the parents of the groom who provide it. In fact all items donned by the groom on the day of his wedding – turban, palla (long scarf) to name a couple – are given from his side.

The bride’s side may gift the groom a suit if they wish, but the outfit worn by the groom on his wedding day, be it a men’s suit or a traditional sherwani, is given to him from his parents or is purchased by him.
